System Requirements

3dMapper runs on Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP. It uses the OpenGL graphics library which is built in to all of the above except Win/95. Thus no special setup is needed for Win 98/NT/2000/XP. However, to use 3dMapper with Win/95, the OpenGL libraries "opengl32.lib", "glu32.lib" and "glut32.lib" must be present in the \Windows\System directory. These files are available for free from Microsoft and can be copied directly to the system directory.

Administrator privileges are required only for installation of 3dMapper. The installation program modifies the system registry and by default installs 3dMapper in the "Program Files" directory.

Except during installation, 3dMapper does not require that users have any special privileges. It does not access the registry during execution, nor does it write data to system directories. Unless directed otherwise, 3dMapper files are written only to the user's "My Documents" and "Application Data" directories. (To be precise, we follow Microsoft guidelines for logo-certified programs, which means that 3dMapper uses the CSIDL_PERSONAL and CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA directories. These normally point to "My Documents" and "Application Data" respectively.)

There are no specific memory or hardware requirements for 3dMapper. However, we recommend systems with 256MB memory or more. In addition, a video card with at least 8MB of memory and hardware support for OpenGL is helpful. Almost all video cards manufactured since 1999 contain hardware support for OpenGL. We do recommend that the latest video driver be installed. These can usually be obtained by download from the manufacturer's website. In the unlikely event your card does not support OpenGL, the operating system will provide OpenGL services via software. (See www.opengl.org for details regarding OpenGL).
